ABOUT

Day 1: Bibliometrics, Benchmarking and Impact Factors for Researchers

An overview of commonly used quantitative methods of evaluating your research output and impact. We will explain how university management, promotional committees and funding bodies define high quality research and how research articles and citation are counted and impact metrics calculated. The day will include hands-on practical sessions so participants learn how to calculate their own h-index, journal impact factors and other useful day to day metrics.

Day 2: Getting Your Article Published in the Right Journal

An unmissable guide to the best methods of choosing journals to submit your manuscripts. There will be a special session on journal white lists and black lists and practical tips on how to avoid predatory publishers or journals. We will demonstrate useful ways to easily identify your articles and promote your research that will raise your impact.

Philip Purnell graduated from the Institute of Psychiatry, London and then went on to hold a research post at the Max-Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich, Germany specialising in autoimmune diseases followed by several years in the pharmaceutical industry.

He subsequently held various roles in the scientific, technical and medical publishing sectors in Europe and the Middle East. Philip has advised universities, research institutes, governments and funding bodies across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia on strategies to improve their research output, performance and ranking.  He has also studied the underlying publication and citation data used in bibliometric studies and university rankings that he has communicated through workshops, lectures and publications in more than 20 countries.

Philip has founded the Research Division of Knowledge E, a Middle East based information provider and knowledge strategy consultancy that offers a series of master classes for the research community covering writing, researching, speaking and publishing skills.

Mohamad Mostafa hold a B.Sc. in Physics from Minufiya University in Egypt, and has more than 6 years’ experience in academic publishing. Having worked with Hindawi Publishing Corporation in Cairo, Egypt for several years, he moved to Knowledge E in Dubai, UAE in 2016. At Knowledge E, Mohamad’s role covers initial content screening and selection, launching new series and journals, editorial processes including plagiarism and ethical standards checking and assessment, materials handling and production processing of both conference proceedings and journal articles, content indexing in the leading abstracting & indexing databases. Mohamad has delivered several workshops and talks about predatory journals, choosing the right journal, and publication ethics at universities and conferences, and has translated the Think. Check. Submit. initiative into Arabic.

Booking Terms & Conditions

Knowledge E will confirm receipt of a booking within three working days of submission of booking form. Registration details, together with a location map and an invoice, will be issued subsequently. By accepting these terms the participant agrees to the registration and the payment of the workshop fees. In the event of a no-show, participants are still liable for the full workshop fees unless a cancellation is received by Knowledge E before the CutOff Date (The exact date is specified for each event which is two weeks before the event itself).

Payment

Payment can be made at the time of booking by send a cheque or by credit card (Visa or MasterCard), following receipt of a Knowledge E invoice, within the validity of the invoice date. An official document will only seats with completed payments are guaranteed.

Cancellations

Knowledge E reserves the right to cancel or reschedule any event for any reason, including when an event does not achieve the minimum number of participants to render the event practicable/viable, and will advise delegates with as much notice as possible before the date of the event. Although rare, cancellations may occur at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances. Knowledge E will use all reasonable endeavours to avoid occurrences of this nature. When this is unavoidable Knowledge E will offer a full refund of the event fee, although pre-paid travel and accommodation costs and any other additional expenses incurred cannot be refunded.

Refund Policy

Full refund in the original method of payment will be given to cancellations made up to 14 days before the start of the event. Cancellation requests must be made in writing and sent to events@knowledgee.com.

Warranty and Liability

Knowledge E reserves the right to alter or vary an event program due to occurrences or circumstances beyond its reasonable control. The delegate accepts that it is their responsibility to verify that the event is suitable for their requirements and that they have the necessary level of competence to be able to achieve the objectives, if any, of the event. While the services to be provided by Knowledge E and its contractors will be undertaken to the best of its ability and knowledge, if any action, compensation, damage or other liability arises from any review, advice or other work performed under the terms of this agreement, Knowledge E or its contractor’s maximum aggregate liability (including legal costs and expenses) shall be limited to the total value of the charges for the event out of which the loss or damage has arisen. Training is carried out to the best of Knowledge E and its contractors’ abilities, but Knowledge E can accept no consequential loss whatsoever for any advice acted upon by anyone attending the training courses. Knowledge E will not be liable for indirect, special or consequential loss (including but not limited to loss of anticipated profit or data, travel or accommodation costs), howsoever arising, even if it has been advised of such potential loss.
