Course outline and schedule
09:00 – 09:30 Arrival, welcome, introductions

Prof. Murru will then walk the audience through a research-focused career in 4 steps:
09:30 – 10:00 Prior to writing an article

  • A quick overview on how to keep up to date on research trends, developing a study design and how to avoid trivial errors in study design that would prevent the publication of any study in international journals

10:00 – 14:00 Writing the article (Coffee and prayer break at 12:30)

  • This is the main part of the presentation and contemplates indications on the different sections of an article (introduction, hypotheses and objectives, method section, results presentation, discussion, limitation, conclusions, a quick glance at software tools to manage references and search strategies in search engines, and two different sections:
  • Writing an article presenting novel data,
  • Writing an article presenting data on literature (review article)
  • Tips on every aspect in order to optimize time and efforts in drawing a manuscript

14:00 – 14:30 Post-writing the article

  • An underestimated yet important issue on choosing a suitable journal, how to manage citations and references, how to write a cover letter and deal with editors, peer-reviewers, the importance of keeping track of bibliometric specifiers to optimize a CV

14:30 – 15:15 Scientific writing for future results

  • General rules and tips on how to write a scientific project.
