The role
This position assists in managing the day-to-day operations of the publishing department, with a longer-term goal of gradually take ownership of various key projects and workflows. Some of your responsibilities will include:
- Administration: generally assisting in the smooth running and efficiency of the publishing team, both in Dubai and in our overseas offices
- Analytics: collecting and collating the publishing analytics data each month, producing quarterly performance reports for each publication
- Client relations: forging good relationships with journal editors and institutions, becoming the first port of call for all their queries and concerns
- Communications and marketing: helping to manage social media account, generate email campaigns, and create blog content
- Content management: keeping the website up to date with new statistics and featured articles, helping the development team implement new designs
- Copyediting: proofreading academic articles, and ensuring it conforms with international academic standards, take ownership of specific journals
- Editorial coordination: working with editorial boards, helping with the creation of training materials for authors and editors (text and videos)
- Event management: support the team in producing promotional events (administration, promotion, collateral creation)
- Market research: undertaking various research projects for the division helping us to develop a better understanding of the market and potential clients
- Sales support: working with the sales team to identify and evaluate potential clients, log new author details, and manage our CRM database
You are
An enthusiastic, innovative, and proactive person with an academic background, who is eager to learn and advance in the publishing industry. You are comfortable working autonomously and as part of a team, have no trouble staying organised and juggling multiple tasks at a time. You are a strategic thinker, able to balance attention to detail with an understanding of the big picture.
Minimum job qualifications
- Native, or equivalent to native, English speaker
- MA or higher
- Degree 2:1 or higher
- Expert English writing skills
- Expert communication skills
Desired extras
- Arabic language
- Experience of academic conferences (as speaker, attendee, and/or organiser)
- Experience of working with, or publishing in, academic journals
- Experience of academic writing styles and vernacular (preferably across multiple disciplines)
- Familiarity with Excel and comfortable with data management and manipulation
- Experience of research methodologies, able to put them into practice in commercial scenarios
- Social media/ marketing/ communications experience
