ORCID Arabic interface launched with Knowledge E support

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, 19th December 2017 – Knowledge E staff volunteered their time to support the launch of the Arabic translated version of the ORCID interface (https://orcid.org/blog/2017/12/18/orcid-now-in-arabic). ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a unique identifier that provides all the world’s academic researchers their own identity. Like a credit card number, the identifier is purely numerical and cannot be confused with any other, unlike people’s names which are frequently misspelled, shared by many people, and inconsistent and a constant source of confusion when trying to identify people’s scholarly output for promotion, publication or funding applications.

The ORCID identifier is free of charge for all researchers and academics can sign up in less than one minute by clicking ‘Register’ on the website. Millions of researchers around the world have an ORCID and the demand in Arab countries led to the development of an Arabic language user interface. Many publishers and funding bodies now routinely require researchers to submit their ORCID when applying for grants and publishing their articles. Read our blog post to discover all the benefits that ORCID can provide here.

Arabic is among the top 20 preferred browsing languages of ORCID Registry users, and it is an operational language for several ORCID member organizations. “Providing an Arabic user interface will increase the awareness of ORCID to millions of potential scholars for whom Arabic is their first or preferred language,” said Mohamad Mostafa  , Publishing Editor at Knowledge E.

About ORCID

ORCID is a community-driven non-profit organization that aims to solve the name ambiguity problem in research and scholarly communications. ORCID maintains a central registry of unique identifiers for individual researchers and provides open and transparent processes for connecting ORCID iDs with persistent identifiers for people, organizations, and research activities and outputs. Connecting these identifiers can improve the research and scholarly discovery process, reduce reporting burdens, increase the efficiency of research funding, and support sharing and collaboration within the research community.
