The Knowledge E Foundation, a registered community interest company and the charitable arm of Knowledge E, made a hardware donation in line with its mission to empower communities through responsible actions. The donation reflects Knowledge E’s continuous commitment to protecting the environment by promoting the reuse and recycling of electronic devices.
The Knowledge E Foundation has donated a number of electronic devices to Fasila, a Dubai-based social enterprise that stands at the forefront of environmental sustainability by ensuring that a tree planted for every device donated. Fasila’s mission is to reduce e-waste and preserve the environment by offering to plant a tree for every device donated, in collaboration with its partner One Tree Planted.
Fasila operates by collecting old electronics and selling them to plant trees. Electronic waste, otherwise known as e-waste, imposes numerous negative impacts on the environment highlighting the paramount importance of recycling and reusing electronic devices. E-waste inflicts significant environmental risks, as it contains hazardous substances that can contaminate soil, water, and air if improperly disposed of. Moreover, the manufacturing and extraction processes involved in the production of these devices consume substantial amounts of energy and natural resources, leading to increased CO2 emissions.
Through Fasila, the Knowledge E Foundation has contributed to One Tree Planted’s efforts to support global reforestation. One Tree Planted, a non-profit organisation, plants a tree for every dollar donated to it. Its goal is to create more animal habitats to promote biodiversity while making a positive environmental impact worldwide.
