The library portal offers the institution an off-the-shelf solution that is dedicated for promoting the library and its services, in particular the e-resources. The library portal enables the following:
- Present all the e-resources in a structured way, with possibilities to tag each e-resource, include a title, description, logo, URLs (e.g. the authenticated link ensuring that the users automatically are authenticated when they access the e-resource) and downloadable documents. The URLs and documents do also typically include user guides and training material.
- High degree of customisation enabling the administrator to change the library portal’s colours, logos, images, fonts and navigation structure, e.g. to reflect the institution’s other web pages and graphical profile.
- A multi-lingual user interface, e.g. with possibility to have it in English and the institution’s local language, including right-to-left navigation for languages like Arabic. The user interface is AA (read “double A”) compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 standard. This means that users with disabilities (in particular users that are visually impaired or have difficulties using a mouse or touch pad) are able to use the system in a fair way. The AA level of compliance is what governmental organisations typically require for their public facing web pages.
- Customisable contact us forms that can be used for requesting material, asking questions or submitting any other type of support query. For each contact request, a support ticket is created in the system and can hence be used by the institution to facilitate its 1st level support.
